Following The Trend - Items And Activities To Honor National Hispanic Heritage Month

Introduction

National Hispanic Heritage Month, which starts September 15 and runs through October 15, gives people a chance to acknowledge the contributions that Hispanics make to our country: the foods, the arts, and Hispanic-owned businesses add approximately $800 billion to the US economy yearly. Use the time to find items and activities to honor National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Activities And Events

Many towns provide parades, music festivals and other celebratory events during National Hispanic Heritage Month; therefore, women might wear Jalisco dresses, and men can wear mariachi suits with sombreros. Attendees might also wear "Latino Pride" or Latina Pride" t-shirts. People might wave flags of Latin American countries.

Some neighborhoods, especially those with Hispanic residents, might throw parties during the month. Hang banners and door signs displaying Hispanic elements. Serve popular foods, including enchiladas, tortilla soup, avocado salad, chicken sanconcho and tres leches cake. People might enjoy tequilas, aqua frescas and rice milk for drinks. Drink out of coffee mugs and tumblers that display inspiring quotes from famous Hispanics. Use a wireless Bluetooth speaker to play salsa music.

Supporting Hispanic-Owned Businesses And Brands

Hispanic-owned businesses are the fastest growing group, with 1 out of 4 new businesses started by a Hispanic. People should support these shops and businesses during Hispanic Heritage Month. Instead of eating tacos and guacamole at Taco Bell, go to an authentic Mexican restaurant. Besides their own shops, many Hispanic jewelers sell their items (bead necklace, charm bracelets) at crafts shows.

Look online for Hispanic-owned brands. You might find a new clothing line that fits your style. Certain cosmetic and beauty products cater to all women, but also target underrepresented Latinas. For example, De La Heart produces Lift & Tone Body Cream to keep skin smoother and firmer.

How Other Businesses Can Help

Promotional products companies should cooperate with Hispanic-owned businesses to sponsor local events during National Hispanic Heritage Month. They can also supply promotional products to new companies starting out. Any successful local business can help Hispanic-owned companies by offering financial advice or assistance. Longtime owners might offer mentorships to new business owners.  Encourage employees to volunteer at Hispanic communities and non-profit organizations or encourage them to learn Spanish as a language or if they're fluent in Spanish, help teach an ESL course.
