Following The Trend - Rising Popularity of Made In The USA Products

Introduction

Since President Trump started placing tariffs on various foreign goods, consumers worried how much prices would rise. Promotional products companies also wondered whether they could continue doing business with foreign-based suppliers. Therefore, people did their research and are buying more American-based goods. The rising popularity of Made in the USA products will likely continue while the tariffs last.

Rise of USA-made Goods

The increased demand for US-based products and American suppliers started a few years ago due to the pandemic and supply chain issues. This year's tariffs accelerated those demands. Some countries hit with the tariffs are major importers China, Canada and Mexico. The industries affected by the tariffs range from apparel, steel and automobile parts.

According to an ASI study, search engine queries of "Made in the USA" rose 66% beginning in early April. Approximately 46% of PPAI 100 distributors are considering US-based sourcing. Many promotional products companies have seen sales of their American-made items rise significantly compared to the same time period last year.

Keeping Costs Down

Lowering costs is the main factor contributing to the increased interest in Made in the USA products. Even with some tariffs being lowered or temporarily halted, consumers still aren't sure how long those conditions will last. Many promotional products and printing companies are working with local factories and distribution centers to limit expenses.

However, it's worth noting that lower prices remain the biggest priority rather than just buying American goods. According to The Conference Board's survey done in June, only 50% of Americans were more likely to buy products made in the US compared to 60% three years ago. Consumers 55 years and older remain especially price-conscious.

How To Market Made In The USA Products

Businesses that sell items made in the US need to take advantage of this opportunity and market these items. A Boston Consulting Group study indicates that 85% of Americans believe that US-made products are better quality than foreign goods. Many customers want to support local businesses. Capitalize on both ideas. Small businesses should post signs that promote their locality and they provide American-made items. Companies might also make Made in the USA logos clearly visible on their website and social media platforms.
